Shimano Recall

11-Speed Bonded HOLLOWTECH II Road Cranksets

Inspection and Replacement Campaign

Shimano is issuing a voluntary recall of some bonded 11-speed HOLLOWTECH II road cranksets produced from June 2012 - July 2019 for a possible bonding separation issue.

To remedy this situation, Shimano will have applicable, pre-July 2019, cranks inspected by Shimano authorized retailers and Shimano will replace any cranks that fail the inspection process.

There is no need for further action for cranks that pass the inspection process.

Not all Ultegra and Dura-Ace cranks need to be inspected. Only cranks produced between Jun 2012- July 2019 need to be inspected, and the way to know if your crank should be inspected is to identify it in step 1 below.

Step 1: Determine if your Shimano crankset qualifies.

Click here to be redirected to Shimano’s website where all eligible cranks are listed.  Then, identify the model number of your crankset and the production code stamped on your crank arm.  This will determine if you are eligible for this replacement campaign.

Step 2: If your crankset qualifies, email Racer Sportif.

Email James@racersportif.com with the subject line “Shimano Recall - 11-speed HOLLOWTECH II road cranksets” and include the following information:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Model number of your crankset
  • Product code stamped on your crankset
  • Clear photo of your crankset which identifies the model (yellow) and the production code (blue)

Example:

Once Racer Sportif has received all required information from you, we will contact you to schedule an appointment for the crank replacement service. Appointments will be scheduled based on our current service volume, as well as parts availability from Shimano.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

Please note this is a Shimano-owned replacement campaign. It is the consumer's responsibility to identify if their crankset is eligible and take appropriate measures. Racer Sportif is not liable for any injuries resulting from continued use of recalled or replacement-eligible products.

Please reach out to us if you have any other questions. We will do our best to get your crank replaced as smoothly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
