The Colnago Master X-Light was first offered thirty years ago. At that time it was arguably the best road racing frame money could buy. As the world of bicycle production developed, and Colnago continued to push the forefront of frame building with carbon frames such as the C-40, and so on. The production of Master Steel frames came to a standstill. With the dilution of carbon frames available to market, the demand for such pieces of art like the Master X-Light started to grow. To the point where Colnago had no choice but to re-release the frame that set the standard for lugged steel construction.

Very little has changed when it was when it last appeared in the Colnago lineup. The tubing, DT15V steel, is identical to the tubing they used before. When the bike was built last, it was with a tubeset that was a joint effort between Columbus and Colnago. Columbus isn't making the tubes anymore, so Colnago tracked down the guy who drew the tubes, brought him the dies, and he produced them for Colnago. So you get the same mix of star-shaped and round tubes. They are joined by the same lugs. The straight-blade Precisa fork, revolutionary when it first appeared, is back. And so is the chrome-plating, and the luxurious, detailed paint. Even with all this going on, the frame is a relatively svelte 1400g. Not to mention that it is fully steel!

The ride is fast, stable, and comfortable. An exceptional platform for the purest that can appreciate the characteristics of what a steel frame can provide. What make it so unique is the hexagonal like shaping of each tube set, which allows to butt the wall thickness much thinner that a conventional round tube. The result is a much lighter tube, undisrupted strength, and still the classic ride of steel.
To top it off Colnago has offered the Master is a limited edition "Saronni" Candy red paint scheme, thus to commemorate the World Championship won by Giuseppe Saronni in 1982.

Left intact are the classic 1" steerer tube, though this time with a threadless steerer. Italian-threaded bottom bracket. 27.2mm seat tube diameter. Room for 25mm tires. Two bottle braze-ons. Large & Bulky Items
Free shipping does not apply to bicycles, bicycle frames, wheel sets, indoor trainers, and other bulky items. A Racer Sportif representative will contact you with competitive shipping options for these items.
